Create Outlook Form and Open with Macro

I have some regular emails I send and I don’t like having to go to the Developer Tab, click Choose Form, Choose User Templates in File System, and then double-click the form in question. That’s way too many steps for this lazy user.

There is some very simple VBA code that will do this and then you can add the button to a Custom Tab. Here’s how.

Exchange 2007 services won’t start after Windows Update

Problem:

This particular problem is caused by installing KB2756918 on a Server 2003 x64 machine running Exchange 2007. I don’t know the specifics, I just know how to fix it.

Windows Update Solution:

First you have to rename two “machine.config” files located in C:\windows\microsoft.net\framework64\v2.0xxx\config and C:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0xxx\config Rename machine.config to machine.config.old and copy machine.config.default in the same directory and rename the default config file to “machine.config”. Make sure to do this in both directories.

Reboot the server and your Exchange transport service should be able to start.

If your OWA doesn’t come back up and you get a message “service unavailable” even after a few iisreset commands you may have to re-register .net v2.0 with IIS. To do this enter the aspnet_regiis.exe command with the –I flag. Here’s an example for my directory structure.

C:\windows\microsoft.net\framework64\v2.05727\aspnet_regiis.exe –i

After that, restart IIS and check to see if your OWA is working. Send a couple test messages and make sure to hide KB2756918 from being installed on the server to avoid this issue in the future.

HOWTO: Fix Broken Hyperlinks in Outlook

After you uninstall Google Chrome, you will notice that Outlook broken hyperlinks are visible, due to bad registry.

Solution for Outlook Broken Hyperlinks:

To fix this problem you need to restore several registry settings in the User Profile.

Click Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
Locate the following subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
On the File menu, click Export.
In the Export Registry File dialog box, enter HKCU_Classes_HTML_Backup.reg and click Save.
- Note: This will create a backup of this registry key in the My Documents folder by default.
Right click the (Default) value for the .html key and select Modify…
Change the value from “ChromeHTML” to “htmlfile”

Repeat steps 1-6 for .htm and .shtml keys if they exist, remember to change the name of your backup file for each export.

Sharepoint 2007 Document Library Files Missing

If you are missing library files as if they’ve been deleted, first check the recycle bin.

All instructions are for SharePoint 2007. Different versions will require different instructions.

From the top-level site select “site actions”, click “site settings”, click “modify all site settings”
Click “Recycle Bin” under “site central administration”
Make sure to check the end user recycle bin and the “deleted from end user recycle bin”

Next make sure the View wasn’t altered to Filter for an item that doesn’t exist.

Go to the List in Question
From the View drop-down choose Modify this View
Scroll down to the Filters Section
Verify that Show all items in this view is selected

If the documents are not listed in the recycle bin or filtered to not appear it’s possible that the view has become corrupted.

Missing Library Files Solution:

You should create a new view for the document library and make it the default view.

Go to the List in Question
From the View drop-down choose Create View
Name the View as desired
Make it the default view
Save the view

If your documents are now visible then you will want to go back and delete the corrupted view.
